High School Students Get Invisible!

Invisible Shoes fan Dan Bright teaches at a performing arts high school in Florida. And after he came into class wearing his Invisible Shoes, the students wanted some for themselves. So we sent materials for about 24 students, and they had a huarache-making party. Barefoot hiking and walking are fun, too!

Barefoot hiking may be the next minimalist/barefoot trend. While barefoot running is the thing that became popular (thanks in large part to Christopher McDougall's book, Born to Run), I've noticed in the last few months that:Many new barefoot runners haven't read, or even heard of, Chris's bookA significant percentage of our customers are not runners, but hikers, walkers, gym-goers, yoga practitioners, and CrossFit-ersAnd, more and more, I get emails and photos from people showing them at the top of some mountain, either barefoot or in their Invisible Shoes. A lot of times their emails will say, "I brought my running sandals... Read full post here

How to tie huaraches sandals - 3 new ideas!

There are so many ways to tie huaraches barefoot running sandals. I want to show you two cool pictures that'll probably give you more ideas of your own. First, Zach Bergen didn't want the knot between his toes (even though you'll probably never feel it, since it's in between your toes and flattens out pretty quickly). So with a bit of thinking, he came up with this solution: (notice the knot on the TOP side of the running sandal) Then, here are 2 stylish... Read full post here

Invisible Shoes Win "Best Huaraches 2011"

Invisible Shoes wins Best Huaraches Running Sandal 2011Christian Peterson, better known as The Maple Grove Barefoot Guy, just announced his first ever Grovie awards for excellence in minimalist footwear. And we are thrilled to announce that Invisible Shoes won the Best Huarache category. Here's what Christian had to say:2011 was really the year of the huarache.  We saw tons of new sandal companies crop up, all with great new innovative designs.  The big two companies (Invisible Shoe and Luna) also put out some great updates to their original models.  But Invisible Shoes took that innovation to the next level.  They went out... Hurache running sandals. Hurraches for running.

You may note my weird spelling of "huaraches" as hurrache and hurache (or if you're using both feet, hurraches and huraches ;-) ) Regardless of the spelling, if you want to run barefoot, you need to try a pair of these minimalist running shoes. Why? Well, they're the closest thing to barefoot, but with the protection a real shoe (at InvisibleShoe.com we use 4mm Vibram Cherry sole material... it's exceptionally light and quite sturdy). You may have heard about hurraches (I'm going to use all the weird spellings I've seen), in... Read full post here

Barefoot Running Sandal Review by Al Kavadlo

Fitness Guy, Al Kavadlo gave his review of  Invisible Shoes huarache "barefoot" running sandals on his popular blog. Says Al, "Invisible Shoes are the closest thing that I have seen to actual barefoot running. They’re based on the famous “huaraches” that the Tarahumara Indians wear when they run. Putting them on made me feel like a Native American warrior!" Check out the complete review on Al's blog (and sign up for his training tips while you're there) at  http://www.alkavadlo.com/2010/05/invisible-shoes/ Al also emailed me to let me know, "I've found that the I-shoes... Vibram Five Fingers vs. Invisible Shoes huaraches

Barefoot running is becoming more popular every day. And, with the growing number of people throwing away their shoes comes... shoes! Barefoot shoes, that is. Chris McDougall's book, Born To Run, featured the Vibram Five Fingers shoes (sort of like a glove for your feet) as well as the low-tech, traditional Mexican huaraches, which the Tarahumara Indians would sometimes make by cutting a strip of rubber off of an old tire and lacing it to their feet. The Invisible Shoes huaraches are a hi-tech update, made with a... Read full post here

Running barefoot -- the most important muscles to use

In an interview I read today, Usain Bolt's coach, Glen Mills, talked about what helped make Usain Bolt the fastest man in the world. He revealed something that will surprise most runners, namely, the most important muscles required for fast, efficient running. Have a guess? Think it's the quads? The hamstrings? Glutes? Calves? Eyelids? Let me quote Glen: Usain is an extremely gifted athlete. When I started working with him, one of the things that stood out like a sore thumb was his poor mechanics. Part...
